In the early days, Special Days began by publishing magazines, producing a 'Gossip' glossy along with 'Pubs and Clubs', one of the first and most comprehensive entertainment and gig-guide venue directories in Australia. As the years went by the Director noticed that more and more customers viewed the online publication rather than purchase the print magazine. The difference in advertising rates was quite dramatic for example, to advertise on the print publication for a full page was around $2000, compared to the online advertising cost of around $199. Pubs and Clubs magazine ran frequent competitions to win concert tickets etc., and statistics showed that more customers applied online rather than cut out the coupon from the magazine. This established that online was both popular and more cost effective than print.
